Anyways, I got this idea when I was reading Cindy Lyles' blog a little while ago. She made gorgeous gifts with these Ball canning jars and candies. I loved hers and immediately knew that was what I wanted to make for my girls' teachers too! If you want to see hers go here http://starlitstudio.typepad.com/ and see her amazing work. Thank you so much, Cindy, for inspiring me to make these!!
Hers used patterned paper and stamped images. I didn't have the right images for mine. I had to make 4 for female teachers and 2 for male, so I thought the apple would be the best way to go. I used my Silhouette to make almost the entire thing. I cut the scalloped circles, circles, apples and one bus out of Colormates cardstock (WorldWin Papers). I added fluid chalk ink to the edges of all the pieces before assembling to give them dimension. Then, I printed the strips that went around the lids on Colormates also. They say "for a GREAT teacher" and "for a GREAT bus driver". The bows cover where they came together. After assembling the die cuts, I put them on the white circles and hated the look of the stark white. So, I sponged Antique Linen Distress Ink on the edges and then stamped a script stamp in the same ink. I glued down the die cuts and then stamped "THANKS" on each circle with one of my trusty .60 alphabet sets from Studio G. Man, I love these sets! I need to get more! lol One thing that bothers me is that I cut the scalloped circle a lot smaller for the bus driver one. I almost ripped it apart and started again when I realized that I messed up the measurements. Then, I realized that he will never see the teacher ones and by itself, the smaller scalloped circle looks just fine. I am way too anal about this stuff....according to my dh anyways! lol
So anyways, here they are....I made 6 of the teacher and one of the bus driver. I hope the recipients like them!!!
